Bill McColl joined Huawei’s Paris Research Center in 2014. Bill was previously a Full Professor of Computer Science at Oxford University, Head of Research in Parallel Computing at Oxford, and Chairman of the Faculty of Computer Science there. He also founded and led Oxford Parallel – a major center for research on industrial and business applications of HPC at Oxford. In his research, he has worked on many areas of parallel algorithms and software systems. He developed the BSP approach to parallel computing, along with Les Valiant of Harvard. BSP is now used at most of the major global web companies (Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Alibaba,…) for their massively parallel graph computing and analytics. BSP also powers leading-edge massively parallel machine learning algorithms and software. At Huawei he currently leads teams that are developing new parallel algorithms and software platforms for AI, Analytics and HPC.
